Virtual Races

Welcome to the Tre Uchaf Virtual Races webpage!

This page will give you all the information on an exciting new project that we have started at Tre Uchaf! Virtual Races have been around a while (Mr Jones has just ran the English Channel and is trying to ring the Length of the UK with his football team!) but we have now started them at Tre Uchaf with Year 3 involved in our little trial!

Watch the initial welcome video that explained the challenge here.

How to get involved

Walk or run around your local area (or back garden – it could be anywhere really!) and track yourself with a free app on your phone or device (many free apps such as Strava. MapMyRun or Google Fit are available via the App Store or Play Store). Send the screenshot as evidence to Mr Jones (via Dojo if your in his class or email at JonesC1484@hwbcymru.net). Once you get to the required target – you will receive your medal!

You do not need to do the total distance all at once. For instance, the Silver 10km medal could be spilt up into two 5km or even ten 1km walks! Any distance left over at the end of a challenge can be carried over into the next. For example, you have completed 4km of the Bronze 5km challenge before walking another 2km. The extra 1km will be carried over onto your next challenge.

Any questions email at the address above.

Got your Gold?! Ready for some more? Check out these crazy challenges created by Mr Jones below.

To enter, you must inform Mr Jones (via Dojo or Email) of which challenge you want to complete before you start. Medals are made to order for these hardcore challenges so please let me know which one you are entering. These challenges don’t need to be completed in any order – pick the one you fancy taking on! Reminder: you don’t need to walk or run a distance all at once. You can complete as many distances as you like!

NHS Challenge – 32.1km

Starting at Gorseinon Hospital walk to Morriston Hospital before heading to Singleton. Then head back from Singleton, back to where you started at Gorseinon. Can you complete the NHS challenge?

Six routes to Snowdon – 38.2km

There are six main routes to the summit of Snowdon – Watkin Path, Llanberis Path, Pyg Track, Miners Track, Snowdon Ranger Path and the Beddegelert Path.  These combined paths have a total of 38.2km between them! Get your walking boots ready and try this mountainous challenge!

River Tawe Challenge – 48km

The main river running through Swansea, starts up at the Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons before heading down and through Swansea and close to the Liberty Stadium. In total, the river is 48km! Get your armbands on and get going on this watery challenge!

Gower Coastal Path Challenge – 74km

The biggest challenge of the lot! Routes vary on this, so I have gone for the longest! 74km is no joke! Starting at not far from our school, at the River Loughor head out on the path before finishing at the Mumbles. If you were walking this path for real, you’d pass castles, some of the best beaches in Britain, dramatic cliffs, old parish churches, famous caves with prehistoric links and wildlife in abundance.
