Attendance- Whole school 92.5%
Well done to our attendance cup winners this week. Year 5 with an amazing 100%. Llongyfarchiadau!
Croeso nol- welcome back! The children have settled back into school well and I am pleased to say they ALL look super smart in their school uniform. A huge thank you to the parents who donated school uniform that their children had grown out of, this is greatly appreciated by many of our families who have used our swap shop at the main foyer. Diolch yn fawr!
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is open for children from Nursery to Year 6. We are still keeping the Foundation phase pupils separate to the KS2 pupils as much as possible and so KS2 will have their breakfast club in the gym. Foundation phase children are currently in the hall. Breakfast is still toast or fruit and a bottle of water and is served from 8.20am. Children can arrive before this time (from 8am) but will be charged £1 to cover additional costs.
Free school meals for Reception pupils.
School dinners are free for Reception pupils at the moment and will be rolled out to Years 1 and 2 in the near future. More information to follow. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Seager in the school office.
For those parents who pay for school dinners, please ensure you have put money on your sQuid account as this is the only way you can pay. The meals need to be paid for in advance and cannot go into arrears. If you don’t have a SQUID account set up yet, please contact Mrs Seager who will happily help you. The menu for the meals can be found here.
https://www.swansea.gov.uk/primaryschoolmeals
Snack
Foundation phase pupils are welcome to bring in £1 per week for fruit. We have a selection of Gower grown fruit delivered from our local green grocer, Shepherds. You are more than welcome to provide your own fruit snack for your child; however can I remind you that it should be fruit only. Some children have brought in yoghurts, biscuits, pepperami and fruit winders. These items would need to be eaten at lunchtime as part of their packed lunch if they bring them to school.
NUTS
We have several children in school with severe nut allergies. Children are not permitted to bring nuts to school as part of snack or packed lunch. Children who handle nut products and then play with toys or equipment are a serious risk to those children with an allergy. Please do not send any nut products into school. Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter.
Drinks
Please also continue to send in a named water bottle for your child which they can refill throughout the day using our water filling stations.
Buzzy Bee Kids Club
This has also started again on Tuesday but you will need to book your children in using the booking link below or by telephoning the school office. These sessions are £10 per child per session and they start at 3pm-4.45pm. We will be running this club until October half term in the first instance.
Information about your child’s new class!
Next week, we will hold a meet the teacher event after school. Children in Year 3 and Reception have already met Mr Jones and Miss Trotman at the end of the Summer Term so this will be for all other classes. You will have the chance to meet the teacher, ask questions, see the classroom and meet other parents. Please log into class dojo for more information.
If you would prefer to have the information by letter or email please let us know. If you have any questions for Mr Jones Yr3 and Miss Trotman in Reception, please ask via class dojo in the usual way.
Parents Evenings
Parents evening will be during the week commencing 14th November. We will let you know if this will be a phone call or a face-to face appointment later in the term.
As you know, I will always make myself available to discuss any concerns you may have, preferably by phone but I’m always out on the yard in the morning before school.
PE KITS
The children will wear their PE kit to school on their PE day. Staff will inform you of this in the meeting or via class dojo if you haven’t already been told.
PE kit consists of trainers, a plain white round neck t-shirt OR a plain house colour t-shirt with the school logo, black shorts, black leggings or black tracksuit bottoms. Please do not send the children into school wearing a football kit, rugby kit, crop top and brightly coloured leggings or a t-shirt with a slogan or sports brand. I have a selection of plain white t-shirts in my office for those children who may forget!
Rainbow Room and Thrive Hive
We have a duty of care for ALL children in our school. At times children become distressed or upset about things that might have happened at home, in the yard or in school. The staff who work in the Thrive Hive or the Rainbow Room focus on children’s well-being. They have been trained and are very experienced. If children need support for something linked to their well-being they might spend some time with Mrs Bessent. This could be anything from a 2-minute chat to reassure them or a 20-minute session once a week. Please always know that we have the children’s best interest at heart and we want them to succeed. If your child wants to share good news or is particularly proud of their work, they might also pop in to see Mrs Bessent.
Please be reassured we will always inform you if the children need further support because working with you, together as part of a team, will always get the best outcome. Please give me a ring if you have any questions.
Homework
Over the next few weeks we will be asking your opinion about homework. Please chat to your child’s class teacher about homework and your opinions around it during your meet the teacher session.

Dear Parent/ Carer
What a busy week! I would like to start by saying a HUGE well done to all our children for performing in this week’s concerts. The Foundation Phase pupils performed ‘Hats off’ brilliantly. Some of our youngest children they haven’t performed to an audience of that size before so they did extremely well. Our KS2 children did an amazing job entertaining us with a musical medley on a very warm evening. Thank you once again to the staff and children for working so hard to get everything in place at the end of a very busy term. Thank you to parents for providing costumes, purchasing tickets and buying a raffle ticket. We have made almost £500 that will go towards our new playground equipment.
Four Year 6 pupils represented our school on Thursday in the Brangwyn Hall for the School Enterprise Final. We are all very proud of the children and Kev Johns was delighted with his gift of a recycled plastic keyring especially made by our pupils. Thank you to the Year 6 staff for supporting the children with this fantastic project.
Next week we will hold sports days however these dates and times may need to be altered if we receive advice from the local authority regarding the extreme weather that has been forecast for Monday. Please keep an eye on class dojo and our website for any last-minute changes. If we do have to postpone any events, we will hold these in September!
Water safety has featured heavily in the news recently. We live very close to Loughor Estuary so this week we will focus on water safety in classes, particularly as we go into the summer holiday. The advice from the local authority is:
• Stop and think: Is it a safe place to swim and do you know the dangers?
• Stay together: Always go with someone else
• Float: If you get into trouble in the water, float to live until you feel calm
• Call 999 or 112: If you see someone else in trouble in the water
Chris Cousens Water Safety Wales Chair says, “We believe that one drowning is one too many and the impact of losing a young person to drowning cannot be underestimated. “More young people will be visiting the sea, rivers, reservoirs, lakes, and other open water locations in the coming weeks as the weather improves, and schools break for summer holidays. The water is still cold enough to trigger cold water shock, the body’s natural reaction to cold water which can cause panic and gasping.”
Sea, rivers, lakes and other open water can look calm and inviting, but open water can be very different from a swimming pool. The water is usually moving, and waves, currents and flow can make swimming difficult. It is important to know the depth of the water and what may be under the surface.
If you require any further advice, the following links have more information.

Our Education Welfare Officer has sent letters to parents of children whose attendance we are concerned about. We are still concerned about children not attending school on their birthday. Please work with us to ensure all children are in school when they can be.
Your child’s annual school report will be sent out on Monday. Please make an appointment with your child’s class teacher if you wish to discuss anything. I am sure you will appreciate the time and effort staff put into these to make each report personal to your child.
I will be sending out a Microsoft form for feedback over the coming week so if you have any suggestions or comments please do not hesitate to let us know. Many thanks for your continued support.
Our Busy Bee after-school club (paid) will be starting in September for a trial period of one month in the first instance. A booking link will be sent to you via class dojo before the end of term to give us an idea of numbers. The sessions will need to be paid for in advance.
I hope you all have a relaxing weekend!
Best wishes
Mrs L Davies

Attendance- This week’s attendance is 91% The best attending class is Year 4 again!
Dear parent/ carer,
Our year 6 children represented our school extremely well during their taster days in both Penyrheol and Morriston Comprehensive schools this week. I am pleased to say they made an excellent first impression. Well done Year 6! There are just 9 days in primary school for this lovely year 6 class and we hope they continue to enjoy these final days with us.
We have had a wonderful week in school practicing for the concerts this week. I’m looking forward to seeing the children in their costumes ready to entertain you with singing, dancing and some acting. Our Key Stage 2 children will be performing on Wednesday evening at 6pm so please make sure you have purchased your tickets from Mrs Seager in the school office. We will not be taking any payment at the door this year however, there will be a raffle!
Our foundation Phase pupils have been busy learning their songs ready for Thursday afternoon. We have decided that there will be two tickets per family as there is just one performance. Please purchase your tickets from your child’s class teacher, as we will not be taking any payments at the door apart from the raffle.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Jones for organising the Greg Rees Tournament on Wednesday. We had over 100 children from 4 different schools in Swansea taking part in football, netball, and rugby games. Mr Civil and Miss Trotman did a sterling job coaching the rugby and netball teams throughout the day. Tre Uchaf came second overall but the children who represented our school did an amazing job. We are very proud of you; well done to all involved!
Our Education Welfare Officer visited the school this week to look at our school’s attendance. She is particularly concerned about those children whose attendance falls under 85%. A letter has now been sent to raise our concerns with you. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me particularly if you feel you require help and support.
After school clubs have now stopped for Sumer term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who have given up their time to run a wonderful range of after-school activities that have enriched our learning provision. Clubs will be back in Autumn Term so if you have any ideas or suggestions please let us know!
Our Busy Bee after-school club (paid) will be starting in September for a trial period of one month in the first instance. A booking link will be sent to you before the end of the term to give us an idea of numbers. The sessions will need to be paid for in advance.
Thank you to those parents who have topped up their SQUID accounts to pay for school dinners. Please make sure you don’t go into arrears and check your account every Sunday so there is enough money for the week ahead. Please provide a packed lunch if required.
On Tuesday, staff and governors met to discuss our shared vision for Tre Uchaf as we move into the new Curriculum for Wales. The children will be discussing this with me next week and we will share it with you in September. You gave us a great insight into your opinions of what’s important to you as parents and carers so thank you for all your suggestions, it is much appreciated.
Please remember my door is always open to you if I can help in any way. Pop in to see me before or after school or ring Mrs Seager in the office to make an appointment. I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Attendance- This week’s attendance is 89% The best attending class is Year 4
Dear parent/ carer,
I cannot believe that we have just 3 weeks left of this busy summer term. There are many events going on over the next few weeks so please keep checking the school website, class dojo and twitter @treuchafprimary to keep up to date on any last minute changes. It is lovely to hear the children singing and getting ready for the Foundation Phase Summer singalong and the KS2 concert. This year there will be two tickets available per family for each show. These will be available from your child’s class teacher from next week and will cost £2 per ticket. Please send in payment in an envelope with your child’s name.
Yesterday, Mrs Alison Williams our school improvement advisor visited school and listened to learners, looked at the children’s books, displays and the whole school provision. Your children spoke about our school with confidence, enthusiasm and warmth. They are a credit to you and you should be very proud of them.
On Monday and Tuesday next week, Year 6 will have their taster days at their chosen comprehensive school. For those children attending Penyrheol, they will need to wear their school uniform on Monday and their school PE kit on Tuesday with their school hoodie. On Tuesday morning the children from morning nursery up to Year 5, will spend time with their new class teacher. The children and staff are quite excited!
From Friday 8th July, after-school clubs will stop for Summer term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who have given up their time to run a wonderful range of after school activities that have enriched our learning provision. We’ve had basketball, makaton, active citizens and cycling to name a few. Clubs will be back in Autumn Term so watch this space.
Our Busy Bee after-school club (paid) will be starting in September for a trial period of one month in the first instance. A booking in link will be sent to you before the end of term to give us an idea of numbers. The sessions will need to be paid for in advance. More information to follow.
Please check your SQUID account and make sure your child has enough credit for school dinners for the time left in school. Parents cannot go into arrears so please can you check every Sunday to ensure there is enough money for the week ahead. Please provide a packed lunch if required.
Calon ADHD is a project group that provide free afterschool activities for children in our local area. They arrange activities such as basketball, boxing, football and scooter sessions. For more information, please contact calonadhdproject@gmail.com

The best attending class is Year 2
Dear parent/ carer,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all 88 families who responded to our parent questionnaire. The results have been overwhelmingly positive and the suggestions are great. We will definitely put our school newsletter on class dojo as well as the website and from September every class will have class dojo as a way of communicating with staff. Our caretaker, Nigel, has welcomed the suggestions with regards to rubbish and debris and he will ensure that our grounds remain as clear as possible. Perhaps we should hold a ground force day every term for any volunteers who would like to lend a hand! All other suggestions will be discussed with the staff over the next few weeks but I would urge the one parent who felt that their child was being bullied please contact me as soon as possible so I can deal with this matter directly.
We have just 8 places left for the Food and Fun Summer play scheme which is running for 12 days at the start of the holidays. This is open to KS2 children. If you require any further information, please get in touch with Miss Kelshaw or Miss Sidaway.
I would like to say congratulations to our Year 6 class who have taken part in an enterprise project this term. They attended a market day at Castle Gardens yesterday with other schools across Swansea. I invested £63 of our school budget into their project and I am pleased to report our money has already been returned with interest! The children will be selling their keyrings over the next few weeks and they are hoping to see a huge profit-watch this space! The children were extremely well behaved and an absolute credit to themselves, you and the staff. Well done Year 6!
As promised, our after school club will return for September for a trial period of one month in the first instance. As you know from recent newsletters, we were unable to sustain the club with only 1 or two children attending each night. For this to succeed you will need to book your children in regularly and pay in advance. If people don’t use it I can’t guarantee it will be kept open because our school will lose money. Our school budget is tight and I can’t put money into this if people aren’t going to use it. There will be a parent meeting for new reception children over the next few weeks so please can the nursery parents who requested it let me know your plans so I have an idea of numbers.
Our Year 6 children will be visiting Penyrheol Comprehensive School over the next few weeks. Your child should have brought home a consent form. Please follow the instructions on the letter to ensure your child has their thumbprint taken to allow them to access the hot meals from the school dinner hall.
Many thanks for your continued support and have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs Davies

Dear Parent/ carer,
The summer term is moving along very quickly and we seem to have a lot to fit in during the next 5 weeks! Fingers crossed for lovely weather so we can make the most of our beautiful grounds and enormous field. We are looking forward to sports day, the Greg Rees tournament, Summer singalongs and maybe even a Summer fayre. If you are interested in helping the PTA put on a Summer fayre please let me know.
Thank you for returning your child’s application form for the ‘Food and Fun’ summer playscheme. Miss Kelshaw and Miss Sidaway will be able to answer any questions you may have so pop in and see them in breakfast club in the morning. The playscheme will commence on Monday 25th July for 12 days from 9am-1pm and will be open to KS2 children initially however if there are available spaces we will open to our younger pupils.
Our Year 6 children represented our school brilliantly on Monday during the question and answer session event with the staff and pupils from Penyrheol Comprehensive school. The Children showed respect, kindness and made a very good impression. Well done Year 6!
There are several visits and school trips over the next few weeks so if your child accesses free school meals please indicate on the consent form if you would like to access a free school packed lunch. Sometimes this food goes to waste if they are ordered and not needed so please let the class teacher know if you’d like one.
Attendance letters have been sent to those children who have lower than average attendance. Whilst we understand that some children have been more poorly than others particularly when we had regular covid cases, we also know that some children are not in school because it’s their birthday. This is not a reason to be absent! Children quite enjoy coming to school on their birthday and love to have a fuss on their special day. We have also been informed that some children are ’faking’ illness to avoid PE days, national tests, swimming and/or if they have had a quarrel with their friends. These are not acceptable reasons to be absent from school. As you know, we are here to help. If you need help and support regarding school attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks for your continued support.

Dear parent/ carer
The children have thoroughly enjoyed Health and wellbeing week and the atmosphere around school has been positive and energetic. The Zumba sessions were popular with staff and children so we are going to start a Zumba after school club on a Wednesday so watch this space!
Thank you for completing the short survey about sports day. From the responses we received, it is clear that paired classes have been slightly more popular than separate individual classes so we will be arranging our sports days according to this. See the dates for the diary below.
Please make sure SQUID payments are up to date because there isn’t a facility to go ‘overdrawn’. All meals will need to be paid for in advance. Many thanks.
Our Food and Fun Summer play scheme is running for 12 days at the start of the holidays. This is open to 40 children in KS2 initially. If we have further spaces available we will open it up to foundation phase pupils. Letters have been sent out and it is first come first served due to the limited number of spaces available. If you require any further information, please get in touch with Miss Kelshaw or Miss Sidaway.
Many thanks for your continued support.

Dear parent/ carer
The children have thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Jubilee Celebrations’ this week and we even had a visit from HRH during the Jubilee picnic lunch yesterday, what a treat. The atmosphere around school has been electric and the Tre Uchaf’s Got Talent Show today was a tearjerker. Huge congratulations to those children who reached the final and what a final it was! The judges had the most difficult job and were in tears after some of the acts so I am relieved I didn’t have to choose the winner. I have no idea how Simon Cowell does this week in week out! Congratulations to The purple Stripes who were our winners, Cameron who came second, Jake was third and Whitney and Morgan fourth- amazing!
The Treuchaf Bake-off was won this year by Year 3 who were delighted. It tasted even better than it looked. Thank you to Mrs Havard, Mrs Dixie, and the Jubilee committee who planned the events this week. The standard of work from the children, which is currently on display in the corridor, was superb.
Thank you for completing the short survey about sports day. We have had a mixed response so far between those parents who would like separate class sports days and those who would like us to be together on the field. More information about dates and times will be shared after half term. If you haven’t submitted a response please click on the link here or copy and paste it into your browser. Many thanks.
Thank you to those parents who attended our parent workshop on Tuesday about children’s anxiety and worries. The response has been fantastic. Please come along to the next and final session if you can on Tuesday 7th June at 2pm in the school hall.

Dear parent/ carer
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the parents and carers who attended the curriculum design meeting in the school hall on Wednesday. It was lovely to see so many enthusiastic people keen to improve the lives of our children. It was a common sense discussion and the representatives paid considerable thought to the needs of the children in our school. We will review the curriculum again during Autumn term and look forward to welcoming other parents and carers who might have missed this opportunity. If you were unable to attend but would like to share thoughts and ideas please email the school or telephone me on 01792893682.
Thank you to the parents who have sent in outgrown school uniform, which we have recycled for our younger children. We have a rail at the front of our school entrance with a selection of uniform to choose if you need it. We understand the cost of living has increased and this is a good way to reduce, re-use and recycle. If your child has grown out of polo shirts, school dresses, skirts and jumpers that are still in good condition, please hand them into your child’s class teacher or the office. This project is helping our school community in many ways.
Thank you to Mr Civil for arranging for DR BIKE to attend school today. There were a few repairs made and a few prescriptions for recommendations! Thank you to Roger from SUStrans and Mr Ricketts our parent governor for supporting the event and getting stuck in!
A few things to remind you about over the coming weeks…
INSET Days
Monday June 6th and Friday 22nd July. Please put the dates in your diary and spread the word!
DON’T FORGET!!!
Learn how to manage your child’s worries in a supportive manner that fosters emotional resilience for your child. The workshop offers an opportunity to understand the science behind worry while providing practical strategies to manage worry in the home and for life outside of school. Look inside the worry cycle, understand the physical feelings of worries and how to manage them, and explore when extra support may be needed. Come along to the school on 24th May and 7th June between 2pm-3pm. We look forward to seeing you.
Absences
Please telephone the school office on 01792 893682 and select option 1 to leave a message. Mrs Seager checks these messages at 9am every day but if a message hasn’t been received you will be telephoned to ask for a reason. As you know, we have a duty of care for all children in our school. If your child is absent, we need to know where they are.
Platinum Jubilee Week
During the next fortnight, the children will be working on a project about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. An event we will never see again! The children will be researching the commonwealth, finding out about the different countries, researching historical facts, investigating Buckingham Palace etc.
We will be enjoying a BIG Lunch/ garden party on the school field at lunchtime on Thursday 26th May. They can dress as a king/queen/princess/prince or wear something red, white and/or blue.
Auditions for TreUchaf’s Royal variety show in the style of TreUchaf’s Got talent will be Monday and Thursday next week and the grand final on Friday afternoon.
Tiddly Tots
It was lovely to get back to some normality last week and welcome some new tots to our parent and toddler group. We have decided to extend the time from 9am-10.30 so pop in between this time on a Friday for a cuppa and a chat! This is a great chance to speak to other parents and prepare your little ones for school! We look forward to seeing you.
Personalised tests
Children from Year2 to Year 6 will be participating in online tests over the next few weeks. These are available online using Hwb and are nothing to worry about! There are practice questions on Hwb so if the children log into their HWB account it will appear on the front page. These familiarisation questions are a great opportunity for you to talk through the style of questioning but they may not be pitched at the right stage for your child. Have a go with them but please do not worry. There will be no pressure from us at all and it’ll just be another way for us to look at their progress in maths and reading.
Have a lovely weekend!
