Harvest
Next week we will be celebrating the Harvest festival. We would like to ask you to donate some tins, packets of pasta or any cupboard items that would be useful for the foodbank. There will be a drop off point in the hall for any families that wish to donate. The school council will be delivering the goods to the local foodbank at St Catherine’s church next Thursday.
Pupil voice elections
On Wednesday the children in Years 2-6 have selected and voted for the children in their class to represent them for each of our 4 pupil voice groups. I am delighted to tell you that the following pupils have been elected and will take an active role in leading learning and representing school during the next academic year.

St David’s Close carpark
This afternoon we have had several calls from residents of St David’s Close who are disgruntled due to parents parking in the residents only car park. Please can I ask you to be respectful of our neighbours, some of whom are quite elderly and rely on their space to be accessible when they return home. One car has had some damage on their door due to a parent parking too close.
School Uniform
Please can I remind you that only one pair of stud earrings are allowed as part of our school uniform policy. Children should not be wearing hooped earrings as these are a health and safety issue. We kindly ask you to keep these for the weekends!
Please label all school uniform particularly jumpers, cardigans, coats and lunch bags. These items tend to be misplaced more than others and for us to return them to their rightful owner, it’s much easier if they have a name on them. Many thanks.
Parent Governor
The governing body are seeking a member of the school community to represent parents in governing body meetings which take place twice a term. You will also be required to attend short sub-committee groups every term. Please pop in and see me if you have any questions. The governors take an active role in school and are very welcoming. We are particularly interested in any parents who may have a HR or finance background.
NO Tiddly Tots next week due to staff training
A huge thank you to Amy and Anastasia, two of our lovely parents who are now organising Tiddly Tots. It was wonderful to see lots of new faces again this week. Please come along or spread the word. It’s a great opportunity to meet other families in school and helps the children settle into school easily. It’s open on Friday 9-11 and for children 0-3years old. Please remember that there will be no Tiddly Tots next week due to staff training.
Safeguarding and Child Protection
The Child Protection and Safeguarding Officer for our school is Mrs Louise Davies, the Headteacher. In her absence the Deputy Headteacher and Deputy Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Stephanie Edwards. The Governor with responsibility for Child Protection and Safeguarding is Mrs Rachel Rees, the Chair of Governors.
I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Welsh phrase of the fortnight: Pwy wyt ti?
Welcome back! Croeso nol!
A very warm welcome to all the new children and their families who have joined the nursery or other classes in our wonderful school. I do hope your children will be very happy here with us. And a big welcome back, we missed you, to all the other children. School has been strange without our previous Year 6 but I know that our current Year 6s will step up, take responsibility and become fantastic role models to our younger children. They will be applying for monitoring/ prefect jobs next week and look superb in their Year 6 hoodies. They chose the jade green and I must say what an excellent choice that was!
Staff news
Mrs Pugh will be leaving on Friday 15th to start her maternity leave because Baby Pugh is due very soon!
Congratulations to Mrs Dixie and her husband who is expecting her fourth child later this term. We will let you know as soon as we appoint someone to take over.
Three of our staff got married during the holidays so congratulations to Mrs Twist (nee Trotman), Mrs Morris, (nee Morgan) and Mrs Cram (nee Sidaway). We wish you all a long and happy marriage filled with plenty of love and laughter.
Consent form
Every year we give an online consent form regarding use of data, consent for photographs, medical information etc. This takes Mrs Seager a lot of time to ensure that everyone completes it and she normally is still chasing consent forms in October and sometimes November. This year we ask you to inform us if anything has changed so if you have a new address, phone number, allergy, medical information or no longer consent to your child being photographed please inform Mrs Seager by email or telephone. Our school email address is treuchaf.primaryschool@swansea-edunet.gov.uk and our school telephone number is 01792 893682. We hope this will be more efficient however we are relying on you to inform us of any changes. All new children will need to complete the full online form which should have been sent to you this week.
School Uniform
Please can I remind you that only stud earrings are allowed as part of our school uniform policy.
Food and fun
The food and fun summer enrichment programme was successful again this year. Thank you to those families who supported the programme and the staff for organising the events. Hopefully we will be able to run it again next year and include reception children depending on staffing levels. Feedback so far has been highly positive but if you have any suggestions to improve it please let me know or come along to the next parent focus group on Thursday 21st September at 9am. All welcome!
Class names
This year the classes will be known as class names rather than year groups and STF. We have decided on flowers as this works well with our bee theme! So from today our classes will be known as;
Nursery/ Reception Daisy
Year 1 Bluebell
STF Sunflower
Year 2 Daffodil
Year 3 Aster
Year 4 Hyacinth
Year 5 Tulip
Year 6 Sea Holly
New website
We will be launching our new school website very soon so watch this space. We hope it’ll be easier to navigate on mobile phones and will be more accessible to all.

The Bee Musical
A huge thank you to the staff and children for producing a fabulous Summer show for us to enjoy. The children are a credit to you! Thank you for providing the costumes, they all looked beautiful!
Scooters and bikes
Even after the reminder about no bikes and scooters on the playground before and after school, we are still seeing a small minority of little children forgetting. Please can you help us to re-inforce this message to your own children. Many thanks!
FP new playground equipment
The LEA inspector is coming to look at the playground work on 17th July so hopefully all being well we can use it from Tuesday 18th July. The children were very clear about what they wanted the safety rules to be so these will be put into my playground risk assessment.
I’m sure as time goes by the rules will be updated but these are the rules designed by the children so far:
- No climbing up the slide in case someone comes down too quickly
- Wait your turn and no pushing on the steps
- No pushing anyone when using the bridge
- If people push and shove they should have 1 warning and if they don’t improve their behaviour they aren’t allowed to use it for the rest of the playtime

Key Stage 2 Summer Show at 4pm on Wednesday12th July
On Wednesday the children will stay in school with us until 4pm. We will provide them with a drink and a snack before the show starts. They will get dressed into their costume and will be ready for the show to start at 4pm in the school Gym. Tickets are available from the school office- 2 per family in the first instance and then any spare will be sold later on. Please make sure you get your tickets on Monday!
The children have written their own scripts, created dances, produced art work, props and designed sketches as part of their Expressive Arts work this year. The singing sounds fabulous and I am sure you will be very impressed with their work on Wednesday.
Please can I remind you not to post pictures of other children on social media due to some children being subject to a court order that prevents them and their school from being recognised. Many thanks for your continued support with this.
Reception parents meeting
There will be a meeting on Thursday 13th July at 11am with Miss Trotman to talk about your child’s transition into full time school. The reception children will be taught in the same class as our nursery children next year however we have created 2 nursery groups of children so we will have some children in morning nursery and others in afternoon nursery. This will make the class smaller, quieter and calmer because it’ll have less children at any one time. There will be a high number of experienced teaching assistants to support Miss Trotman . I know you’ll have questions about the logistics so please come along to the meeting on Thursday and Miss Trotman and I will answer any questions you may have.
Information for our nursery parents will be shared with you next week and a more in depth meeting with Miss Trotman will take place in September.
Safeguarding and Child Protection
The Child Protection and Safeguarding Officer for our school is Mrs Louise Davies, the Headteacher. In her absence the Deputy Headteacher and Deputy Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Stephanie Edwards. Thank you
Well done everyone! We raised £624.48 from our Summer Fayre. The school council have been discussing what they’d like to buy with the money so if you or your child have any ideas please let them know before the next school council meeting on Tuesday.
Oystermouth Castle
Our Year 5 pupils represented Tre Uchaf in a cluster project with local schools researching the Battle of Llwchwr. Their exhibition showed real life models of weapons used in the Norman era. I am very proud of them for representing us so brilliantly. Please look at our Twitter @treuchafprimary for photographs of the day.
Dog Mess
Thank you to the parents who have made some suggestions about keeping our field dog mess free! I will look into the options suggested and keep you posted! This week we have had to pick dog mess up from the path that runs alongside the car park. There is a £1000 fine for not picking up after dogs and that area is monitored by CCTV.
Scooters and bikes
Active travel to school is a huge part of school improvement plan this year so we encourage children to scoot or cycle to school safely. The majority of children know the rules and once they reach the gate they walk their bike or scooter to the bike shelter in the KS2 playground. However, some of our younger pupils are riding them around the FP playground before school, falling off or bumping into people so please can I ask you to remind the children to park their bike or scooter before school.
Penyrheol Summer Show
On Thursday evening, Mr Smith and I had the pleasure of watching our year 6 orchestra and past pupils perform as part of the Penyrheol Summer Show. To watch our children play the trumpet and violin in front of a packed audience made me feel incredibly proud. The determination and perseverance you’ve shown has paid off and you should be very proud of yourselves year 6. I hope this will inspire our younger pupils to learn to play a musical instrument in the future. So many of our past pupils are continuing their expressive arts journey and it is wonderful to see the friendships formed along the way.
FP new playground equipment
You might have noticed that our new playground structure is being installed over the next few weeks so hopefully this will be ready before the Summer holidays. We are delighted about this especially as it’s taken so long! Once it’s been signed off by the LEA as being safe to use, we will need to come up with some safety rules for playing on it particularly before and after school when staff are not there to supervise risky play. I will talk to the children about this and let you know what our safety squad decide!
Football training
Football training with Jacob from Gower College and one of our parent governors will start in September on a Wednesday after school from 3pm-4pm. Thank you to Mrs Broome, our parent governor, for volunteering to support us with this. Mr Jones will continue to organise matches for the team and hopefully we’ll be able to borrow a minibus to transport the children to matches around Swansea. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.
Miss Emmeline Morgan (STF) will be organising a girls’ football team from September. More information will follow!
Foundation Phase Summer Show
In order to keep our children safe there will be just one entry point for Wednesday’s show. Please can I ask all parents and carers to enter school via the main school entrance and bring tickets with you. These are available from the school office for £1. The main gate will be locked until 1.15pm and once the children are all safely in the school building after lunchtime, we will let everyone else in. The North Road and St David’s close gates will be opened after the show when the children leave.
Please can I remind you not to post pictures of other children on social media due to some children being subject to a court order that prevents them and their school from being recognised. Many thanks for your continued support with this.
Next year 2023-24
The children will be finding out who their new teachers and teaching assistants will be during the transition morning next Tuesday. There will be an opportunity for Nursery parents to meet with Miss Trotman in a planned meeting for those children who will be moving to full time school on Thursday13th July at 11am.
For those children who will be moving from Year 2 to Year 3, there will be a meeting for parents to meet with the class teacher on Tuesday 11th July at 2.30pm.
Nutella and nuts
Please can I remind you that children shouldn’t bring nuts to school because we have staff and children with a nut allergy.
Family Learning
Don’t forget family learning afternoons on a Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. Parents and carers of children in Reception, Year1 and Year 2 can attend free of charge!
The sessions will be moved to a morning session in September so hopefully more people will come along.
Governing body meeting
On Tuesday we will hold our annual school development plan review with staff and governors. The governors meet with the school council before the meeting to get their opinion about what has worked well and what needs improving. If you have any suggestions about improving what we do in school, please speak to one of our governing body before Tuesday.

Welsh phrase of the fortnight: Wyt ti’n iawn?
Best Attending classes: Year 5 again….Well done Year 5!
Whole school attendance is back up to 93%
Good attendance
Attendance throughout the school is above 93% this week which is definitely on our way to the recommended 95%. Thank you to everyone who attends regularly and is on time. The chart above shows how important punctuality is so please can we all make every effort to get to school by 8.50am at the latest! We can do it!
What another busy week especially for our Year 6 children who have performed on stage at the Grand theatre and also taken part in the Enterprise challenge at Castle Gardens- Ardderchog pawb!!
This fortnight we have been raising the awareness of how important health and well-being is to everyone in our school community. This is why sports day is so early this year. The staff have also planned visits from Paralympian David Smith and Welsh footballer Lily Woodham who will be joining us for an inspirational assembly on Monday. Thank you to those of you who helped to raise sponsor money for the circuits session on Monday, it’s much appreciated!
The children have experienced basketball, ballet, kickboxing and boccia this week and more activities are planned this following week so please can all children wear trainers to school every day until Friday.
The weather has been very kind to us again this week but we are still very mindful of spending too much time in the sun. Please can you ensure your child brings a sun hat to school, sunglasses if they have them, a refillable drinks bottle for regular water top ups and they’ll need to wear sun cream every day. Please apply before they come to school. Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the sun and cover shoulders with a t-shirt. Shorts or summer dresses are also recommended for this weather.
Our Sports day on Tuesday went really well. Some parents have suggested the PTA run a drinks/ ice lolly stall which is a great idea. If you have any other great suggestions to improve our events, please let me know. I can be found on either playground each morning from 8.35am or give me a call on 01792 893682.
Family Learning
Don’t forget family learning afternoons on a Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. This week we didn’t have anyone in the sessions which is a shame as this is fully funded. We are thinking of changing it to a morning session from September. The sessions are open to families of children in Reception, Year1 and Year 2.
Safeguarding and Child Protection
The Child Protection and Safeguarding Officer for our school is Mrs Louise Davies, the Headteacher. In her absence the Deputy Headteacher and Deputy Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Stephanie Edwards. Last week the school governors appointed a new ALNCO, Sian Galsworthy, who will take over from Miss Smith in September. She is very knowledgeable and friendly and will be in school over the next few weeks getting to know our children, their families and the ALN systems we have in place. I am sure you will give her a very warm Tre Uchaf welcome!

Cost of living crisis
Poverty proofing the curriculum has been an area which our Bee Citizzzens discussed in the last Rights conference last term. As always we like you to be part of any plans we make so there will be a parent focus group over the next few weeks to discuss ways we can help keep costs down. Please come along and contribute or come and listen to other people’s suggestions.
Greg Rees Tournament
Our netball, football and rugby teams will be representing Tre Uchaf in our annual Greg Rees Tournament on Wednesday. Please come along and support your children on the school field on Wednesday from 10am- 2pm if you can.
Summer shows
There will be one Foundation Phase Summer show on Wednesday 5th July at 1.30pm and one KS2 show at 4pm on Wednesday 12th July. The KS2 show will be at 4pm so we will keep the children in school that day and give them a hotdog and a drink as a teatime snack before the show starts. More details will follow over the next few weeks. Tickets will be on sale in the office from Monday 26th June for £1 each and will be limited to 2 tickets per family in the first instance.
The nursery singalong on Friday 7th July will be in the school hall. More information will follow in the next few weeks!
Holiday request forms
As you know we can’t authorise holidays during term time however in order to ensure our learners are safe we do require you to fill in a holiday request form which will tell us where the children are and how long they’ll be away for. This is to make sure you don’t have phone calls from our attendance officer, Mrs Seager. These are available from the school office from Monday. Please complete it prior to any holidays.
Many thanks.

Newyddion a Criw Cymraeg,
This half term classes are sending out their Welsh mascots for children to take home and write about. Uncle Bryn, Ffion Myfanwy and ffrindiau are off on their travels. If you child has been chosen to take them home, please take good care of them!
Diolch,
Criw Cymraeg
Our Reception class visited Brynteg Farm and had a magical day yesterday. The children haven’t stopped talking about it today and were so excited to tell me about the chicken on Mrs Hartup’s head. I wish I was there to see that!
Our wellbeing target on our school improvement plan is developing well and the Active Travel and Rights Respecting school aspect has almost been achieved! We were delighted to share our active travel progress with staff from other schools who have just started the Active Travel scheme. Diolch to Mr Civil for hosting this event.
Year 2 entertained their families on Monday afternoon with their performances for the ‘Beat Band and Boogie show’. I can’t wait for TreUchaf’s Got Talent this year so you can show the school your talents. Ardderchog pawb!
Our Year 6 pupils went to a the Penyrheol Transition council event on Thursday and represented our school brilliantly. Pupil voice plays a huge part in our school and ensuring we listen to learners to make improvements has been fundamental to our success. Our pupils always speak positively about Tre Uchaf and are always respectful. I am a very proud headteacher!
Police / School beat workshops
This week our school’s liaison officer PC Laura Anthony visited school to lead workshops for our Years 3,4,5 and 6 children. Topics explored included grooming, friend or foe, anti-social behaviour and internet safety.
Family Learning
Don’t forget family learning afternoons on a Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. This week they had a Teddy bears outing which looked like great fun! Parents and carers of children in reception, Year1 and Year 2 can attend free of charge!

St David’s Close Car park
The residents of St David’s close have asked me to remind you that the small carpark at the back of the school is for residents only. Some families are parking there and have damaged cars by letting their children swing the car door open banging into the car parked next to them. This has resulted in 2 cars being scratched and damaged this week. Please ensure children are safe and open doors carefully while respecting other people’s property. Many thanks for your understanding in this matter.
Next year’s Year 6 class of 24 hoodies
The jade green leavers hoodies will be available online from 1st June via Sew and Sew. The children chose a beautiful shade of green, da iawn pawb! There is an option to pay in instalments if that’s easier but please remember they are not to be worn until the children are in Year 6 in September.
I hope you all have a lovely week off and we’ll see you bright and early on Tuesday 6th June.

Newyddion a Criw Cymraeg,
On May 18th the Criw delivered an assembly all about ‘Negys Ewyllys Da’ which is an annual celebration by the Urdd with their Peace and Goodwill Message. This year the theme is Anti-racism. You can see the anti racism tiles on show near our garden at the front of the school. Diolch yn fawr pawb!
We are always looking for new members to join our Criw so if you are free on Mondays after school, please ask Mrs Havard for a consent form.
Diolch,

Loughor Town Band
The band visited our school on Friday morning to play for our Year 2 children as part of their topic ‘Beat, bBand and Boogie’. The members of the band were so impressed with our children and the quality of questions they asked that they’ve emailed me to tell me. Well done Year 2, you should be very proud of yourselves. A big thanks you to Mrs Havard and Mrs Clark for organising this lovely event!
Packed Lunches
We have noticed a decline in the amount of healthy foods in lunchboxes over the last few months and today a child had a blue chuppa chupp lollipop in their box as part of their lunch. Please can I remind you that sweets, fizzy drinks, energy drinks and high amounts of chocolate biscuits and cakes are not allowed.
One small chocolate biscuit along with sandwiches or a wrap, pasta or a salad with some fruit is absolutely fine however this week a child had a chocolate mini roll, penguin bar, 4 custard creams, grab bag of crisps and a bag of minstrels. This is a vast amount of sugar for one lunchbox and I am sure you will all agree that we want our children to physically fit and healthy.
If you would like advice on healthy lunchboxes or help in supporting children who are fussy eaters, please come along to see our school health visitor on Thursday morning. She will also offer advice on screen time, behaviour boundaries and saying no to children, bedtime routines, toileting and sleep. Both Rhian and Brogan are very supportive and approachable and you’ll be made to feel very welcome!
Family Learning
Don’t forget family learning afternoons on a Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. Parents and carers of children in reception, Year1 and Year 2 can attend free of charge!
SAFE PARKING
Thank you to those parents and carers who are respecting our car park rules and keeping our children safe. Please report any cars or vans that are parked illegally on the pavements or double yellow lines.
The Pengry Road carpark is available if the car park is full. It’s a short walk away at the bottom of heol cae Ty Newydd. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
The school website
Please check out our school website for weekly newsletters and pictures on twitter. Our twitter handle is @treuchafprimary but to see the pictures, you don’t need to have twitter just look at the bottom of our website.
The school website will be upgraded to a more modern format so if you have any suggestions of what you need me to include, please let me know.
This week in assembly the children have been shown a link on the school website so they can tell me important news. This will then be sent through to my phone as a notification and I can catch up with them the next day at school. This is a safe place for them to tell me about something exciting going on in their lives or if something is worrying them and they want to talk. It’s accessible through the Pupils tab and the top of the box as a link

SQUID
Please can you make sure SQUID payments are topped up every week. It’ll avoid Mrs Seager calling you to nag you to top up! Many thanks.
World Bee Day
Buzz our school mascot designed by Mayer in Year 6 is a big part of our school life. Buzz’s missions are evident around the learning provision and you’ll also see the symbol in the children’s books when they bring them home. The ‘Beee Citizzzzens’ made a bee hunt today for the children to find out facts about bees and their use. A huge thank you to Mr Smith and our pupil voice group for organising this for the children.
Breakfast club
Our KS2 children have had the option of using our Art room over in the gym building for quieter activities in the morning. If your KS2 child would prefer the quietness of the art room, please see Mrs Tench in the morning. Breakfast times are 8am-8.40am. A £1 charge is payable from 8am-8.20am. Newyddion a Criw Cymraeg,
This week the younger Criw Cymraeg members have been playing some Welsh playground games and practising their Welsh words. On May 18th the Criw will be delivering an assembly all about ‘Negys Ewyllys Da’ which is an annual celebration by the Urdd with their Peace and Goodwill Message. This year the theme is Anti-racism.
We are always looking for new members to join our Criw so if you are free on Mondays after school, please ask Mrs Havard for a consent form.
Diolch,
Criw CymraegCongratulations!
Llongyfarchiadau to Mrs Pugh, our ISTF class teacher, who is expecting her first baby in September. It’s always lovely to hear baby news in school and we wish Mrs Pugh and her husband our very best wishes from everyone at Tre Uchaf!
Family Learning
Don’t forget family learning afternoons on a Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. Parents and carers of children in reception, Year1 and Year 2 can attend free of charge!
Residential for next year’s Year 6
We have booked a 2 night stay at Morfa Bay on March 20th for next year’s Year 6. We have set up a payment plan over the next 11 months to spread payments out and there will be a slight reduction for children who access free school meals and the school uniform grant. Please could you send in £20 to secure your child’s place before 31st May.
SAFE PARKING
Please park safely around the entrance to our school. Parking on a pavement so wheelchairs can’t get past is an issue for all of us because we have children and parents who use a wheelchair to access school safely. Please be considerate to our neighbours and respect the car park rules. A white car parked illegally, on yellow lines opposite the car park entrance earlier today and this was a risk to our children. Please contact 101 and report drivers and cars who are a nuisance. We don’t want any road traffic accidents or any children to be injured through careless parking!
Please use the Pengry Road carpark if possible! Thank you to those who do park safely and help look after our children. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
Walking Bus
Apologies to anyone who has been waiting at 8.20 for the walking bus. The walking bus is staffed from 8.30am. We did start it earlier when we did it every day during the Big walk and Wheel to boost our numbers and encourage the children however on a normal Friday the drop off time is 8.30. Please accept my apologies for the confusion. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Civil, Miss Trotman, Miss Kierl and the other staff who help out, for giving up their time to organise it every week; it’s much appreciated!
Breakfast club
Our KS2 children will now have the option of using our Art room over in the gym building for quieter activities in the morning. These will include board games, cards, puzzles, colouring, drawing and my favourite, Top Trumps! Thank you to Mrs Tench for organising this. If your KS2 child would prefer the quietness of the art room, please see Mrs Tench in the morning. Breakfast times are 8am-8.40am. A £1 charge is payable from 8am-8.20am. If you come along after 8.20am breakfast club is free!
Energy drinks message from Year 4
Year 4 have been discussing energy drinks as part of their Potions topic. Mr Smith and the children have been researching them and wanted to share this information with you.
Energy drinks have large amounts of caffeine and drinking these can have the same effect on child-sized bodies as the ‘fight, flight, freeze’ response that they learned about during Children’s Mental Health Week. A lot of the physical symptoms that we have when we are worried (palpitations, stiff limbs, tunnel vision, headache) are due to our bodies preparing to be fast or strong. Even in adults, powerful energy drinks can cause these symptoms.
They’ve been researching ingredients for healthy potions (i.e. Smoothies) and looking at how much sugar we should be consuming each day. Year 4 made a smoothie in class today from unsweetened coconut milk, avocado, banana, strawberries and blueberries. Two children did not want to taste it but those who did taste it gave it a score out of ten, and the average score was 9.04. Lots of children said they would make this again, even though it had no added sugar.
University of Wales Trinity Saint David
Our teaching students, Nia Loren and Lowri Clark, will be speaking at the ‘Aiming for Excellence’ conference at the University next week. Both Nia and Lowri have been outstanding students who will be sharing their experiences of their time in our school with other educational practitioners. We are delighted that they have been recognised as excellent students and wish them the very best of luck!

Celf a Coronation
Please join us in the school hall on Wednesday 3rd May at 2pm for a Celf and Coronation Fayre. The children will be displaying their art work and selling their ‘Coronation crafts’. Please come along and support them if you can. The children have been using their enterprising skills by researching, marketing and pricing their products ready to sell. Ardderchog pawb!
Coronation Disco
A huge thank you to the PTA for organising the Coronation Disco on Thursday. There will be a foundation phase disco at 4pm until 5pm but parents of nursery pupils are asked to stay with them. Those children who become overwhelmed by the noise of a disco are invited to attend the quiet disco at 4pm in the JSTF. Please use the JSTF door to access this.
The Key Stage 2 disco for Years 3,4,5 and 6 will be at 5pm-6pm. Tickets cost £2 and are available from Mrs Pompa or Mrs Seager in the school office. The PTA are looking for some Foundation Phase parents to help sell hotdogs, sweets and drinks at the disco. If you think you can help out, please let me or your child’s class teacher know. All help gratefully received!
RVE
As part of our Religion, Values and Ethics Curriculum, our children will be visiting places of worship such as the local Church, Swansea Mosque and a Sikh temple to name a few. I am sure that you will agree that the children need opportunities to:
· develop a sense of their uniqueness and value;
· reflect upon their own beliefs, values and actions and express and justify their own feelings and opinions;
· show empathy and consideration for others;
· develop compassion and help others;
· develop a voice and listen with respect to the voices of others;
· form good relationships;
· talk about themselves in relation to others;
· gain awareness of and respect for the beliefs, teachings and practices of others, as well as an ability to articulate their own;
· explore how religious and non-religious worldviews impact on the lives of individuals, the local community and wider society.
Visiting these special places of worship with their teachers and friends will give them confidence to ask questions and explore their surroundings in a respectful and inquisitive way. If you would like more information about our school curriculum please contact me on 01792 893682 or come along to our next parent focus group on Thursday May 11th at 2pm.
Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers who might have a spare hour or so every week to hear readers, help in classes with art or gardening or even share a particular skill with the children. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me on 01792 893682 for a chat!
TRAFFIC
I would like to remind you to drive at 5MPH in the school car park and the surrounding areas. A black car was seen driving dangerously in the car park this week and a nursery child had to be pulled back. This is being investigated so if you know the driver or have any information about this incident please contact me ASAP. Please be vigilant and walk safely with your children, holding their hands if they don’t have any road sense yet, and using the pavement rather than walking through the carpark.
Remind your children to follow the ‘Kerb craft’ rules.
Water/ beach safety
The children took part in an excellent assembly on Tuesday. Joe and Sam from the RNLI came to school to teach the children about what to do in a water emergency and how to stay safe at the beach. They had a sound understanding to start with but by the end of the session it was clear that they had learnt much more. Thank you to the children who volunteered to take part in the activities and those who answered the tricky questions. I’m sure if the children visit the beach this weekend they will tell you all about it! Da iawn pawb.
I hope you all have a relaxing Bank Holiday weekend; fingers crossed for sunny weather.
See you on Tuesday!
