What a wonderful time of year to be around children and to enjoy the magic of Christmas! The children have been amazing, performing shows, dancing at parties, singing along in pantomimes, and having a fabulous time in school with their friends. Thank you for being so supportive especially during my first term as headteacher. It has been a challenge but a role I have thoroughly enjoyed.
I hope you have all received the letter from the Director of Education, Helen Morgan-Rees, regarding planning days on 4th and 5th of January. We will postpone our planned INSET day until later in the term and look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Thursday 6th January. Please keep checking our school website particularly on the 4th and 5th January for information about returning to school. From what I can gather, we might need to put further precautions in place such as staggered start and finish times, wearing of masks on school grounds, and continuing the one-way system. As soon as I have any information I will let you know via Schoop, class dojo, and the school website.
Kids’ Club
Yesterday was a sad day as it marked the end of our after-school kids club which was run separately from the school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nicola Tench, Heather Horne, and the staff who worked tirelessly to support children and families who needed it. Thank you to those of you who have filled in the Microsoft forms to help us plan for after-school care in the future. It is my intention to speak with the ladies who work after school to try and find a way to provide the children with a safe space to play and be looked after. I will hold a meeting with them during the first week back and will let you know any plans in the first newsletter of 2022. Watch this space!
PTA
I am delighted to tell you that we have raised almost £1000 with the raffle, film night and the Christmas present stall. These funds will go towards updating our playgrounds. I hope that we will be in a position to buy purpose-built equipment for the children to use by the end of this academic year.
Diary dates for January
Monday 3rd January
Bank holiday- no school
Tuesday 4th January
Planning day- No children
Wednesday 5th January

Finally, I would like to wish each of you a magical Christmas with your loved ones. I hope that you all have a happy and healthy New Year and we will see all the children back in school on Thursday 6th January.

Dear Parents/carers,
This week has been a fun-filled festive time in school with Christmas jumpers, Christmas presents, and plenty of singing. Our Foundation Phase children have entertained us with singing, dancing, acting, and storytelling and I am pleased to tell you the four concerts have been very successful. Thank you to those parents who attended and followed our covid safe rules. Below is a reminder of the rules which will help to keep us all safe.
- Only 1 adult per child to attend the performance
- You must wear a mask unless you are exempt, in which case you must bring proof of exemption
- You need to sanitise on the way into the gym and on the way out (automatic sanitisers are available by the entrance and exit)
- You need to follow the one-way system and once seated remain there until the end of the performance
- When queuing you’ll need to be 2 metres apart
- All seats will be socially distanced and once you sit down, please do not move seats
- All seats will be cleaned after each performance
- If you take photographs, they are not to be put on social media as we have several children, for legal reasons, who cannot be in any pictures in school
- If you hear a fire alarm, you will need to leave by the emergency exit and wait in the car park. The children will wait on the yard with the staff and wait for further instructions.
Christmas present stall
Thank you for supporting our annual Christmas present wrapping stall today. Unfortunately, we did run out of presents by 10.30am however, we will have more stock delivered on Monday morning and the stall will be open for Year1, Nursery and Year 2 children to purchase something for their Mums and Dads.
PTA Raffle
The PTA have sold raffle tickets during the concerts which will be drawn on Wednesday 15th December. Some of the prizes this year include an overnight stay in Morgan’s hotel, a signed Swansea City football shirt, 4 tickets to watch a Swansea City home game, a bottle of Bacardi, several bottles of wine, several boxes of chocolates and many more! Tickets cost £1. If family members would like to purchase a ticket, please send money in to school before Wednesday.
After school clubs
A big thank you to the teaching staff for providing after-school clubs this term. There will be no clubs this week and they will start back after Christmas. Thank you to those who have filled out the survey for after-school child care. We are trying to arrange something for the New Year. More information will follow.
Class dojo
Please can I remind you that staff will only respond to class dojo messages between 8am and 5pm. Teachers have meetings after school, run after-school clubs and are busy planning and preparing your children’s lessons for the following day. Please use class dojo as a messaging tool for urgent or necessary messages only. Thank you!

I am sure you will all be glad to know, hot meals are back and our school kitchen has re-opened! Christmas dinner will be on Tuesday 14th December for those who have requested a Christmas lunch.

Dear Parents/carers,
The Christmas season is in full swing here at Tre Uchaf! It has been lovely to hear the singing come from the hall when the children have been rehearsing for their moment to shine! Just a reminder about ensuring we stay safe during the performance. Please stick to the following rules to keep yourselves and others safe throughout the short time you’re with us:
The children will wait in the yard with the staff and wait for further instructions.
Christmas present stall
We will be holding the annual Christmas present wrapping stall on Friday 10th December. All gifts will be in quarantine for a minimum of 72 hours. If your child would like to choose a present please send in £2 per present. There will be presents suitable for parents and grandparents. We have Santa’s little helpers who will be helping to wrap the presents and these will be stored in class until Monday 13th December when the children will bring them home. A BIG thank you for all the donations so far it is very much appreciated! I hope that we will raise a large sum of money for the PTA.
PTA Raffle
The PTA will also be selling raffle tickets during the concerts this year, which will be drawn on Wednesday 15th December. Some of the prizes this year include an overnight stay in Morgan’s hotel, a signed Swansea City football shirt, 4 tickets to watch a Swansea City home game, a bottle of Bacardi, several bottles of wine, several boxes of chocolates and many more! Tickets cost £1.
Christmas Cards
The children can write or make one Christmas card to their class and the teacher will display that for all to see. Please do not send in lots of cards as many children may handle them. Thank you!
Car parking
We have had several more complaints from local residents over the last week regarding the inconsiderate parents parking in car parking bays and now walking across gardens. I would like to ask the one or two parents who are still being disrespectful to our neighbours, to stop and think about whether you would be happy if your children acted in such a way! I know that car parking isn’t ideal around school but the Pengry road club has always allowed us to park there and walk the rest of the way. We also have a back entrance to school via St David’s close and the North Road entrance is also available to use. Many thanks to the vast majority of parents who do the right thing,
Hot meals
Thank you for your patience regarding the hot meal situation. Unfortunately, due to staff shortages again next week we can only provide lunch bags to children in receipt of free school meals. All other children will need to bring a packed lunch. I hope that the following week we will be back to normal and we’ll be able to have a Christmas dinner!
A polite reminder that we have children with a nut allergy so please don’t put any nuts inside the lunches because your child could be sitting next to one of these children.

Dear Parents/carers,
The Christmas season is upon us and the children are working so hard learning new songs, actions and narrator parts ready for their performance. I know that I am very excited to see them all do their best and thank you in advance for supporting us by providing costumes and following the covid safe rules.
One ticket for the performance will be allocated to each child at a cost of £2 per ticket. These will be available from the class teacher when they are ready. Your child’s class teacher will pass on this information over the next week so look out for class dojo messages.
Christmas present stall
We will be holding the annual Christmas present wrapping stall on Friday 10th December so if you have any unwanted gift sets or new bits and bobs that could be a nice gift for a parent, please send it into school before 3rd December. All donations are gratefully received!
Pupil Voice Elections
This week was the first time we have held elections for our pupil voice groups. Each child in Key Stage 2 was encouraged to take part in the election and many wrote a speech to persuade their classmates to vote for them. Mrs Rees our chair of governors attended the event and helped at the ballot station. Our year 5 reporters live-streamed the event across the school and interviewed candidates and voters throughout the morning. The results were announced in assembly on Tuesday and the children elected were delighted! More information from each of the teams will be shared with you over the coming weeks. Watch this space!
Car parking
We have had several complaints from local residents over the last week regarding inconsiderate parents parking in car parking bays. I would like to ask the small minority of parents to be respectful of our neighbours and park legally and safely. Please use the North road entrance or St David’s close if the car park is congested. Many thanks.
Hot meals
Thank you for your patience regarding the hot meal situation. Unfortunately, due to staff shortages, we have been advised to provide packed lunch bags for our children who are entitled to free school meals. I hope that the catering department will be able to provide hot meals next week so I will keep you informed as soon as we have any further information.

Dear Parents/carers,
We have had a fabulous week in school this week. The children have been buzzing around the school learning about the four core purposes of the New Curriculum for Wales. We have held a competition to find a character which we can use to represent these purposes. We will announce the winner shortly!
Inset Day
There will be an INSET day for staff training on Tuesday 4th January.
Year 6 Residential
A residential has been booked for our year 6 pupils in March 2022. A letter has been sent home and the deposit should be in today. If you have any questions or need to share any information or concerns please contact the school office.
After school clubs
The staff have sent out consent forms for the children to attend after-school clubs this half term. It is important that if children sign up to a club, they attend every session. Clubs on offer will be;
Clwb Cymraeg Year 1 and 2
Netball Year 5 and 6

Mrs Glass and some of our nursery parents had a fabulous morning this week. They have been working together learning about maths language for little children. Please come along if you have a child in the nursery. The nursery children will be joining their parents for part of the morning which they loved!
Family Learning
We held our first family learning session on Tuesday afternoon. We have altered the time to 1.30pm until 3pm and this week it will be held in Nursery. If you have a little one, please come along with them and join in the sessions. We will be looking at and trying out healthy eating recipes this week
Water Bottles
Thanks to everyone who brought in a water bottle this week- diolch!
Christmas
There will be no Christmas fayre to raise money for the PTA this year however, we will be holding a Christmas raffle. If you know a local company that might like to donate a prize, please let me know. We will also hold the Christmas present wrapping stall so if you have any unwanted gift sets or bits and bobs that could be a nice gift for a parent please bring it into school before 3rd December. All donations are gratefully received! We are hoping to hold some sort of class stall for individual classes, more details will follow.
Christmas concert update
As you can imagine it has been a difficult decision to plan fun activities with minimum risk for Christmas time this year. We are still ‘high risk’ in Swansea even though Covid numbers have been relatively low in school. However, I have spoken to governors who have agreed that we can hold a few mini live concerts with the following condition in place:
Only 1 parent per child to attend the show
Chairs will be socially distanced
Parents to wear a mask to their seat and can only then remove it
Hands are to be sanitised on the way into the building and on the way out
Concert or show will be held in paired classes rather than a phase
- Nursery singalong
- Reception/ ISTF
- Year 1 and 2
- Year 3 and 4
- Year 5 and JSTF
- Year 6
Each pair of classes will perform twice. Once in the morning for one set of parents and once in the afternoon for the other set of parents. JSTF parents will attend at the same time as year 5 parents. There will be one performance for Nursery and one performance for Year 6.
I am sure you will understand that it is vital you follow the rules to keep the children, staff and parents safe. We would love to have everyone packed in the hall celebrating Christmas together but unfortunately, we cannot do this now. We will make the best of this situation and I am sure the children will enjoy performing as much as we will enjoy watching. I’M EXCITED ALREADY!!

Newsletter week ending 21st October
Dear Parents/carers,
Many thanks for your continued support over this very busy first half term, I can’t believe how quickly it’s gone! The children have had a fun and spooktacular day today raising some money for the PTA so a big thank you to everyone who got involved in dressing up or paying to wear non-school uniform. Lots of children were so keen on the dressing up they forgot to bring in a £1 today but I’m sure the PTA will happily collect the remaining pounds after half term if you wish to donate. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
Inset Day
There will be an INSET day for staff training tomorrow on Friday 22nd October so there will be no school for the children. We will welcome the children back to school on Monday 1st November.
Year 6 Residential
A residential has been provisionally booked for our year 6 pupils in March 2022. A letter with further details has been sent home with the children today. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Civil, Mrs S Davies or Mrs Havard on 893682. Many places have closed or remain closed since Covid struck so it has been a challenge for Mrs Havard finding somewhere that will accommodate our children. Morfa Bay looks fantastic and I’m sure the children will have an amazing time!
After school clubs
The staff will be sending out consent forms for the children to attend after school clubs next half term. It is really important that if children sign up to a club, they attend every session. Clubs on offer next term will be;
Clwb Cymraeg Year 1 and 2
Story Club Year 1 and 2
Netball Year 5 and 6
Active citizens Year 5 and 6
Makaton Year 3 and 4
A big thank you to the staff who have offered to run these clubs. Don’t forget we also have our paid After School Kids’ club available from Monday- Thursday for Reception- Year6. This as a very reasonably priced childcare option for working parents or a chance for children to meet up with their friends in a relaxed and safe way! Contact the school office to book children in and enquire about payment.
Numeracy and play sessions for nursery pupils
Mrs Glass will be organising maths sessions for our nursery parents every Tuesday after half term from 9am-11.20am. The nursery children will be joining their parents for part of the morning which they will love!
This will be a great opportunity to get to know other parents but also learn about the ways we teach maths to our youngest pupils. The sessions are free and will include a cuppa and a biscuit! Come along to our parent and family room at 9am every Tuesday. See Mrs Glass for more details!
Family Learning
We will be organising family learning activities every Tuesday afternoon to help support our parents and carers who have asked for help and advice. Some suggestions so far include;
- managing behaviour at home
- basic first aid
- cooking healthy meals
- keeping children active etc.
These sessions will be very informal and are a chance for you to get to know different staff and parents in school. These are free sessions and will be very informal. Come along and have a chat on a Tuesday afternoon from 1pm-3pm in the parent and family room.
Water Bottles
All children will need to bring a sports water bottle to school which they can refill from our water coolers. The majority of children already do this but there are a small minority who don’t. We would normally give cups to children to drink water during the day but after covid we stopped doing this to avoid any sort of transmission of germs. If you don’t have a sports water bottle at home, please can I ask you to purchase one for your child. They are relatively cheap to buy from most supermarkets. Children will continue to be given a drink as part of their hot lunch in the dinner hall but they do become thirsty after playtimes on the yard! As you know water is good for their brain development and we encourage the children to keep hydrated throughout the day. Thank you!

A warm welcome to our new children who have joined our school. We have welcomed five lovely new children since September and I am pleased to say they have settled in really well. Our children have been a credit to you and have welcomed them with open arms. It is a pleasure to see their kind and friendly nature show through when visitors come in to look around. I am very proud of them all!
