Happy Lunar New Year to you all!

I am sure you would have seen and heard from the national press, the NEU and NAHT unions intend to take industrial action which has been planned for 1st and 14th February and 15th and 16th March. I have received guidance from the local authority and I’m in the process of undertaking a risk assessment to establish if we can remain open safely to pupils with the amount of staff available to work. Once I have established if we can open without compromising the children’s safety then I will contact you via class dojo and the school website by Tuesday at the latest.

Year 6 parents and carers might have noticed that two of the days in March fall within the Year 6 residential. I have been in contact with Morfa Bay to negotiate a change to the proposed date and I’m waiting for them to get back to me with new dates. Hopefully they will be able to accommodate us around the same date because the children and staff are very much looking forward to it!

Dear parents/carers,

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!

I hope you all had a relaxing Christmas break and a well-earned rest. The children are back into the routine of school and busy working hard learning about their new class topics. As I walk around school it feels as though there is a calm and studious atmosphere everywhere I look which is lovely to see.

News

Mrs Mead our Year one teacher has become a mum in the holidays. She welcomed baby Gracie into the world on New Year’s Day. Congratulations Mrs Mead! We also welcome back Mrs Lewis who returns from maternity leave and has joined Mrs Hall and the Year 1 team. The Year 1 children have given her a very warm welcome!

After-school clubs

Our after school clubs are starting back next week. If you would like your child to join in, they will need to collect a consent form from the member of staff organising the club. For Key stage 2 parents, you will need to indicate on the form if you are collecting your child or consent to them walking home at 4pm. All clubs start at 3pm and finish at 4pm.

Class Dojo

As the majority of you know, Class dojo is a fantastic way to communicate quick messages to teachers and parents and for teaching staff to show photographs of what’s going on in class. However, we have noticed that there are a group of parents of children in our younger classes who are sending lengthy messages to staff late at night about minor issues that can be resolved with a quick, friendly chat at the door the next morning. Class dojo is a professional messaging app to pass on quick messages and isn’t a platform to air comments or gossip about other children and their families. I have told all staff that if a message is sent after 5pm then it is perfectly reasonable to respond the following day. Please be mindful that teachers also have their own families, attend planning meetings before and after school and will be setting up the continuous provision in class before your children arrive. If you have an urgent message that cannot wait until you see the teacher at the door, then I suggest you telephone Mrs Seager in the office to pass a message on. I have a duty of care to all staff and if parents continue to send messages with an aggressive and argumentative tone, I will remove them from class dojo.

Nuts

On another note, I am impressed that some of you have leftover Christmas chocolates in January (I know there aren’t any left in my house). However, can I remind you that Christmas chocolates which contain nuts are not welcome in school lunch boxes. A few children have had a Forrero Rocher or a hazelnut whirl this week but as you know we have a several children and a member of staff with a nut allergy. Please keep chocolates that contain nuts at home. Many thanks for your understanding with this.

Dear parents and carers,

There has been a wonderful Christmassy atmosphere in school this week with plenty of singing ready for our Christmas concerts which start on Wednesday afternoon. There are still parents who have yet to purchase a ticket for our foundation phase concerts. Entry will be by ticket only and there are two tickets allocated per family. The spare tickets will be on sale Monday afternoon so please purchase your tickets before then.

A Heol Cae Ty Newydd resident contacted the school on Thursday to tell me about a near miss involving a very young girl from our school. The young child was running up the street and ran straight across a driveway when a car was reversing out of the drive. Please can I remind everyone to practice safer road safety on the way to and from school? I don’t want any child to be hurt by any moving vehicle especially when it’s easily avoidable. If anyone has any further information about this please contact me so that I can report it to the health and safety team at Swansea council.

There are just 9 days left in school until the Christmas holidays and we still have so much to look forward to. The Key stage 2 concert tickets will be on sale from Wednesday afternoon. They will cost £1 per ticket and we will allocate 2 tickets per family in the first instance. We will be performing just one show for key Stage 2 on Wednesday 21st December at 1.15pm in the school gym.

The PTA raffle will be drawn on Friday in the Seren yr wythnos assembly. If you’re a winner we will also put a list of winners on class dojo on Friday afternoon. If you win an alcoholic prize you will need to collect it from the school office. Other prizes will be given to the children to take home.

Our school Christmas tree in the foundation phase yard is looking a little bare. If you have a spare Christmas bauble at home please send it to school with your child to put it on. The children will be singing songs around the tree during the last week of school.

Have a lovely weekend!

Mrs Davies

Dear parents and carers,

Thank you for supporting our PTA Christmas fayre this week. I am delighted to tell you that we have raised £970 including the £200 raised from the coloured hampers. This is an amazing achievement considering the current financial climate. Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi! Please remember that our school uniform swap shop is always available at the front of the school entrance for anyone needing some school uniform.

Both Year 1 and Year 5 have expressed their recent school topics with their families by showing their work during their class assemblies. Both classes did brilliantly but I must say that our Year 1 children were superb considering this was their first class assembly in front of a live audience. Well done to the year 1 and 5 staff and children! Our children in the STF, reception and Year 4 classes will present their class assemblies in the Spring and Summer terms. Dates to follow.

Don’t forget we have an INSET day tomorrow so the staff are able to receive training in cognitive behaviour techniques, welsh and ICT. All are linked to our current school development plan. We will see you bright and early on Tuesday morning!

Warm wishes to you all on this very cold day!

Well done to our attendance cup winners this week – NURSERY with 97.5%

Theme of the week will be Peace and Remembrance

Dear Parents and carers,

What a busy half-term we have had! The children have had a great start to this academic year with lots of engaging visits linked to their class topics, swimming lessons, new sports including cricket, music lessons including string and brass, class assemblies, aspirations week, watching shows, attending football tournaments, library visits etc. It’s no wonder that the children are a little tired and getting ready for a well-earned rest next week; They deserve it!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for getting back to normal and providing our children with memorable events and fantastic lessons. I’ve been really impressed with the school council who have been able to give me a commentary on the activities they’ve enjoyed and learnt from the most. The school council will be writing their own pupil power plan over the next half term and will share it with you via the newsletter. Watch this space!

Next term, Mrs Mead our Year 1 class teacher will be leaving to have a baby and I am delighted to tell you that Mrs Hall will be covering her maternity leave. Mrs Hall knows the children already and will spend some time in Year 1 alongside Mrs Mead and the year 1 team during the next few weeks. I am sure the transition between the two teachers will work well. Welcome back Mrs Hall!

Our Beee Ethical pupil voice group led our assembly on Tuesday. They would like all children and parents to complete the Ambitions for Wales survey from the children’s commissioner. This is the link.

I would really like to start our parent focus group again because your opinions matter to us in school. We want to actively seek your views and strengthen our partnerships. Please complete the link below to indicate when would be the best time to meet.

https://forms.office.com/r/GfvpYGzXfk

Parents’ evening will be a mixture of face-to-face appointments or a telephone call this term. When we asked parents using the questionnaire there was an even split so we have decided to offer either a face-to-face meeting or a call, whichever is easier for you. Appointments will be 10 minutes. I would kindly request that children who have separated parents to arrange to attend the appointment together or one person attend and feedback to the other parent. If there is a reason why this cannot happen please contact me at school to discuss it. The staff are preparing an appointment list and will send the link on class dojo before Tuesday 8th November. I will also be available during that week to discuss anything school related.

Thank you all for your continued support and have a SPOOKTACULAR week!

Kind regards

Attendance- Whole school – 92.9%

Well done to our attendance cup winners this week- Year 3

Theme of the week; Black History Month

Dear Parents and carers,

Please accept my apologies for sending you the weekly newsletter late this week. We have had another busy week in school as you can probably see on our Twitter page @treuchafprimary and the time has flown by!

I am delighted to tell you that last week two of our Year 6 pupils, Rhys and Elliot, represented our school at a celebrating diversity and anti-racism conference at the Swansea.com stadium. So to share their new skills and experiences they have asked to organise some workshops for our Years 4,5 and 6 children on Thursday this week. We look forward to learning more about diversity in school.

Our family learning group on a Wednesday afternoon is still available for all parents, carers and grandparents of children in reception and year 1. Please come along if you can between 1pm and 3pm every Wednesday. You can come along every week or drop in when you’re free. I can assure you a warm welcome awaits! I am pleased to say that our Tiddly Tots playgroup is growing in numbers and we have many toddlers getting ready for nursery. If you have a child or young baby and you haven’t registered for a nursery yet, please speak to Mrs Seager in the school office to secure your place.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have any parents for our PTA meeting on Tuesday afternoon. This is such a shame, as we would love to work together with you to raise funds to develop our playgrounds. We completely understand that parents are busy and at work but if you were not able to make it on Tuesday but would like to lend a hand, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thursday will be an outdoor day for our foundation phase pupils. They can wear old clothes to school as they’ll be spending the whole day outside doing lots of different jobs such as painting, woodland crafts, sweeping and getting ready for winter. Please be prepared for clothes covered in paint and dirt!

On Friday, we will be celebrating Shw Mae Day! This is a celebration of the welsh language and Mrs Havard and the staff will be preparing some Welsh themed events. The children can wear something red white or green to school on this day. Luckily for us, our uniform is red so wearing that will be absolutely fine too!

I need to let you know that the school dinner menu has changed and the allergen list is slightly different. If your child has a nut allergy or any allergy in fact, please make sure you check out the new ingredients. I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that school is a nut free zone due to several children and a member of staff with a nut allergy. Please ensure Nutella is eaten at home and do not send in any nut products for lunchtime. Many thanks for your continued support.

Finally, we are delighted to inform you that the Gorseinon and Loghor Lantern Parade is back this year! There are workshops in the community on 11th, 12th and the 18th and 19th November in the Loughor welfare hall and Ty Newydd.  This is a fabulous event encouraging all families to make a lantern. Please get involved if you can. The parade will start at 6.30pm on Thursday 24th November. More details to follow.

Thank you all for your continued support and I hope you all had a relaxing weekend.

Best wishes

Attendance- Whole school 94%

Well done to our attendance cup winners this week.

Theme of the week next week; Harvest and giving thanks

Dear Parents and carers,

There has been a wonderfully positive and upbeat atmosphere in school this week due to our annual ‘Aspirations week’. A huge thank you to the parents for coming in to talk about their job and also the staff and governors who have arranged visitors or have spoken to the children themselves about their role before becoming a teacher or teaching assistant. I hope that we have inspired many children to be ambitious about the future. Please have a look at our twitter (@treuchafprimary) or the school website to see the photographs.

On Friday 30th September, we will hold our annual harvest assembly in the school hall. This is for pupils only. Please could you help us to collect for our local foodbank by giving your child a food item to donate?

Suggestions include:

Pasta

Cereal

Squash

Tins of soup, beans, meat, curry etc

Pasta sauce

Rice

We understand times are difficult particularly with energy prices rising so there is no pressure to donate something but even a tin of beans can go a long way to those in need. The school council will deliver these to the foodbank over the next week.

Buzzy Bee Kids Club

Unfortunately, numbers are very low. There have been times this week when we have just one pupil using this service yet we are paying two members of staff. After speaking with the staff and our school accountant, we are no longer in a position where we can keep this going without it having a big impact on our school budget. Regrettably, this will now finish on September 30th.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents of the 5 children who have supported the provision and also the parents who have contacted me to inform us that they have made alternative arrangements.

PTA Meeting- Tuesday 4th October at 2.15pm

Please come along to the meeting to discuss our Christmas fayre. If you can spare a little time to help our very small PTA to pick up drinks and sweets from the warehouse, source raffle prizes, help on stalls etc. please join us in the school hall on Tuesday 4th October at 215pm.

Thank you all for your continued support and I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Newsletter Week Beginning 19th September

Attendance- Whole school 93.5%

Well done to our attendance cup winners this week. Mrs Pugh’s class (ISTF) had 100% attendance.

Theme of the week next week; Aspirations

The children in reception have been in school for full days this week although by Friday we had a few tired boys and girls! They have settled into full-time school easily and Miss Trotman and the reception staff are impressed with how well they are doing. Da iawn Reception!

If you would like to come to school to talk about your job please let us know. The children are always keen to hear about jobs they could do in the future and this is a great way to raise their aspirations around jobs for the future and the world of work. You don’t need to have a fancy job, we just want to broaden the children’s experiences so if you have a spare half an hour please let us know. We will give you a very warm welcome!

Our older children have been busy this week, taking part in a range of engaging experiences linked to their new topics, and also had fun with the coaches from cricket Wales. They will be working with us every Wednesday over the next few weeks so don’t forget to wear trainers on a Wednesday! Behaviour was excellent and the coaches were pleased with the progress just in one lesson. Ardderchog!

Please make sure you complete the permissions form sent out on class dojo so that the children can visit areas of interest in the locality linked to their new topics. You will need to complete it for each child you have in our school even if you agree to everything. Many thanks to the 90 parents who have completed it already.

I hope you all enjoyed meeting your child’s class teacher this week. We had a lovely turnout and the parents who I spoke to after the meetings all said they found it extremely helpful. Remember to sign up to class dojo so teachers can contact you with quick messages and you’ll be able to contact them if needed. Please can I ask you to remember that teachers will respond between the hours of 8am and 5pm but during school hours, they are teaching your children so you may not get a response straight away.  In an emergency or if you need to pass on an urgent message, please telephone Mrs Seager in the school office.

Buzzy Bee Kids Club

As you know, we have decided to start the after school Buzz club again for this first half term however numbers are very small. If this continues we will not be in a position to keep it going after October half term and parents will need to find alternative after-school provision. Please telephone the school office to book your child in to the sessions.

PE KITS

The children will wear their PE kit to school on their PE day. PE kit consists of trainers, a plain white round neck t-shirt OR a plain house colour t-shirt with or without the school logo, black shorts, black leggings or black tracksuit bottoms. Please do not send the children into school wearing a football kit, rugby kit, crop top and brightly coloured leggings or a t-shirt with a slogan or sports brand. I have a selection of plain white t-shirts in my office for those children who may forget!

Head lice

Please check your child’s hair regularly. It is inevitable that when young children play together there will be times they might pass on head lice. This is a common problem! Please help to keep on top of any head lice problems by regularly combing hair with conditioner and using a treatment if necessary. Please tie long hair up in a ponytail to reduce the chances of hair near other children. Many thanks for your continued support.

Help needed!

Our Christmas Fayre is 1st December and we need your help! If you can spare some time to help our very small PTA to pick up drinks and sweets from the warehouse, source raffle prizes, help on stalls etc. please contact  or give your details to Mrs Havard in Year 2 or Mrs Pompa in Year 4. A PTA meeting will be later this month so keep checking the newsletter for more information!

End of the day routines

Our priority when dismissing our youngest children  at the end of the school day is ensuring they are safe and go straight to parents/ carers from the door. Please can I ask you to wait until all children have gone out to their parents/ carers before engaging in a conversation with the class teacher. We know sometimes it’s a quick message but it can be difficult to listen to messages from parents when 28 children are all waiting in the cloakroom. We have to keep the children safe so I ask you to wait until the end. I am sure you won’t mind waiting a few minutes until the children have been safely reunited with their grown up!

Thank you all for your continued support and I hope you all have a relaxing bank holiday weekend. We will see you on Tuesday!
